Hendrix College, a non-sectarian private institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church, was first established as Central Collegiate Institute at Altus, Faulkner County, in 1876, renamed in 1889, and moved to Conway in 1890.
Hendrix offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in 23 majors. It also offers programs in conjunction with the American University in Washington, D.C., Oxford Brookes University, Washington University in St. Louis and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
Each year, the Hendrix-Murphy Foundation's Programs in Literature and Language sponsors a series of cultural performances and workshops on a central theme.
