Lake Conway - Lake Conway, built by the Game & Fish Commission for recreational purposes, provides excellent fishing. The lake covers approximately 6,700 acres and lies in south central Faulkner County. It begins along Interstate 40 and Highway 65 near Stone Dam Creek bridge and runs south to Mayflower. However, a fork at the northern end extends northward into the southeastern Conway city limits in the Amity Road area on property belonging to Conway Corp.
The main access to Lake Conway is from Interstate 40 via Exit 135 at Mayflower. This exit offers access by way of Highway 89 and Clinton Road to docks east of the lake. The northern end of the lake can be reached by gravel roads branching off Highway 286.
Construction of the lake was begun in 1948. Its water came from the runoff of Stone Dam Creek, Gold Creek, Palarm Creek, Little Cypress Creek and Panther Creek. Its average depth is 6 feet, with a maximum depth of 18 feet. It is approximately eight miles long with 52 miles of shoreline.
Dedicated July 4, 1951, the lake is not only the largest body of water in Faulkner County, but it is also the largest man-made game and fish commission lake in the United States.
