Established in 1877, Philander Smith College (PSC) is the state's oldest private historically-black institution of higher learning. A non-sectarian institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church and the United Negro College fund, the five academic divisions of PSC offer undergraduate B.A. and B.S. degrees in the areas of business, natural and physical sciences, teacher education, and sociology and social work.
PSC offers students personalized, one-on-one instruction in an academic environment that is both stimulating and challenging. The College has 32 full-time and 25 part-time and adjunct faculty members, many of whom hold Doctorates in their chosen fields.
The College is conveniently located near I-630 on an enclosed 12-square block campus in the beautiful and historic Quapaw Quarter of downtown Little Rock. The James M. Cox Administration Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was renovated in 1988 to house the College's Business Office, classroom space and instructors' offices. Other special facilities include a 500-seat auditorium, a tennis court and dormitory space for 220 students.

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is Arkansas' only metropolitan university serving almost 12,000 students who must balance the demands of a career and family with their education.
The 150-acre campus is growing to keep pace with the metropolitan area it serves. The university opened its first 306-bed residence hall for the 1992 fall semester. A new state-of-the-art student center opened in Spring 1993 featuring office space for student organizations, meeting and banquet facilities, a wellness center, an Olympic sized swimming pool, and courts for basketball, volleyball, tennis and racquetball. A $7 million expansion of the science complex is now complete. Special facilities include a 700-seat theater, concert hall, recital hall, art galleries, and a planetarium offering shows for the general public and for school groups.
Degree offerings include 1 certificate program, 9 associate programs, 49 undergraduate programs, 31 master's programs 3 Ph.D. programs and the juris doctorate degree, which is offered at the UALR School of Law.

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Law is one of seven colleges and schools that form the University of Arkansas at Litttle Rock. It is located in historic MacArthur Park, on the edge of downtown Little Rock, near the Arkansas Arts Center.
The UALR School of Law offers full- and part-time programs to approximately 415 students drawn from more than 20 states and 100 colleges and universities. Women, minorities, and non-traditional students form a significant part of the student body.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), founded in 1879, is the state's only comprehensive academic health-sciences campus. As the center for healthcare research in Arkansas, an overwhelming majority of the state's healthcare professionals are trained here.
The University's five colleges - Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Health-Related Professions, and the Graduate School- serve more than 1,800 students. UAMS faculty members conduct clinical and basic-science research and have built a reputation as some of the world's finest scientists. Research facilities on the UAMS campus include the Biomedical Research Center, the T.H. Barton Institute for Biomedical Research, the Bernice and Harvey Jones Eye Institute, and the Arkansas Cancer Research Center. UAMS faculty members also staff the clinical and research programs at Arkansas Children's Hospital and at the Little Rock and North Little Rock campuses of the John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
